Buying Stellar Lumens with USD

Below, we lay out how to buy Stellar Lumens (XLM). Because lumens are not yet paired with US dollars, you must first buy Bitcoin or Ether on one exchange and use it to buy lumens on another.

Step 1

Create a GDAX account here and connect your bank account (or pay fees with a credit card). This is where you will buy Bitcoin or Ether.

Step 2

Create an account on a secondary exchange like Binance, Bittrex, Kraken or another exchange that offers lumens on this list.

This is where you will buy lumens.

Note: Some of these exchanges have suspended new account registrations.

Step 3

If the secondary exchange you chose has an Ether pair with lumens (i.e. Binance and Bittrex), then buy Ether on GDAX - Ether transfers faster and has lower transfer fees than Bitcoin. If not, buy Bitcoin.

Step 4

On the secondary exchange, visit your Ether wallet and copy your Ether address.

Step 5

Send your Ether from GDAX to the secondary exchange address.

We recommend sending a small amount at first to make sure everything is working properly.

Step 6

Wait for the Ether transfer to complete. Once completed, use the Ether to buy lumens on the secondary exchange.
